Music program

Keysborough Secondary College prides itself on having a unique Music Program.
Curriculum & Instruments
The Performing Arts program includes a balanced mix of Instrumental Music and Classroom Music education for every student, conducted in dedicated state of the art music facilities.
Upon enrolling into Keysborough Secondary College, all students will participate in the mandatory and free Year 7 Concert Band program. In this program, all Year 7 students will be given the opportunity to trial and choose an instrument that they would like to learn for the duration of Year 7.
Instruments on offer in the program include:
- Flute
- Clarinet
- Alto Saxophone
- Tenor Saxophone
- Trumpet
- Trombone
- Euphonium
- Bass Guitar
- Drums & Percussion
Students in Year 7 will have 1 timetabled Band class a week as well as 1, 30-minute instrumental lesson per week. Instruments and lessons are provided to students for free by the College. There will also be two concerts in Year 7 where family and friends can come to watch and support the students. The first concert is in Term 2 and the second concert is in Term 4.
A Musical Education
Data shows that Music Education helps students’ develop a rage of skills and abilities that support them to succeed not only in school but in life. Such skills include, but are not limited to:

Music Pathways
The Keysborough Secondary College “Music Masters” program provides students with a pathway in music education from Year 8 onwards. This streamlined pathway sees music students continue their music studies in depth, where they further develop their technical and academic understand of music performance. Students in the Music Masters program the an opportunity to continue their studies through to the end of Year 12.

If students choose to continue to learn an Instrument from Years 9-12, they will be required to pay a nominal fee, which will cover the costs of instrument hire and tuition.
Events & Performances
From Year 9, some of the Bands/ensembles/activities offered for Music students at both Campuses to enrol into are:
- Concert Band
- Symphonic Winds
- Stage Band
- Musical Band (once every two years)
- Choir
- Music Camp
- Plus, many more instrument based ensembles

- Victorian Schools Music Festival (VSMF)
- Public Performances at shopping centres such as Parkmore, The Glen, Waverley Gardens & Brandon Park Shopping Centre.
- SEVR events
- School based performances – lunchtime performances for events such as Harmony Week, semester music concerts and school assemblies.
- Local aged care facilities
- School Musical Productions
- School Visual Art events and galleries
